Georgina Hayden, The Guardian "Netherton Foundry do the most stunning iron pans"
Georgina Hayden certainly knows her way around a kitchen, having spent considerable time in a great many of them, growing up above her grandparents’ Greek Cypriot taverna, Georgina developed a love of cooking and storytelling through the recipes passed down to her. From there, having first worked as a food assistant at various magazines, she went on to join Jamie Oliver’s food team where she worked for 12 years. A lot of pans have passed through her hands!
And so we are especially thrilled that when the Guardian stated “whether you are frying, boiling or braising, the right pan is vital” and asked fifteen of the UK’s finest cooks and restaurateurs tell us what they use, Georgina chose a 12” Netherton Foundry prospector pan. This is what she had to say:
“People get fixated on a pan being good or bad……… I’m not OCD about my pans; when we taught cookery lessons at Jamie Oliver’s Revolution, we would get everything from Ikea because that’s what we could afford, and they were fine. Having said that, if you’re into your kit, Netherton Foundry do the most stunning iron pans “
We love the introduction to the article; As the late American writer Laurie Colwin put it so brilliantly in her essay The Low-Tech Person’s Batterie de Cuisine, “Pots and pans are like sweaters: you may have lots of them, but you find yourself using two or three over and over again.” And here’s the thing: whether it’s pans or clothing, the most useful ones are those which fit your lifestyle best.
And just like your favourite sweater that simply goes with everything, our prospector pans are one of the most versatile pieces of kit in your kitchen.
