The Times: Jamie Oliver's favourite recipe by Georgina Hayden

Food writers’ favourites

It is easy to imagine that food writers are so immersed in their trade that all they ever eat are their own creations; their world confined to their own kitchen , illuminated by the light from their fridge.
But if that were so, from whence would come their inspiration, their excitement at finding new ideas, new tastes? The best food writers, must also be the best food readers, the most adventurous tasters, culinary explorers. And this article in this Saturday's The Times Eat! section demonstrates their shared love of food, their enthusiasm and admiration for fellow creators and their favourite recipes.

If the full page photo of Jamie Oliver's choice of Georgina Hayden’s grilled halloumi with apricots styled by Polly Webb-Wilson and so evocatively photographed by Romas Foord in a Netherton prospector pan doesn’t immediately make you think of sunny days and blue skies, then we don’t know what will!

Georgina Hayden is a cook, food writer and stylist from north London. Growing up above her grandparents’ Greek Cypriot taverna, Georgina developed a love of cooking and storytelling through the recipes passed down to her.

Her first book, Stirring Slowly, was published in 2016, followed by the book about the food of her Cypriot family, Taverna, in 2019. Her third book, Nistisima: The secret to delicious Mediterranean vegan food was a Sunday Times bestseller and was voted Best Cookbook at the OFM and Fortnum & Mason Awards.

Her latest book , Greekish, published earlier this year, is in her words, “inspired by my Greek-Cypriot roots and Greek travels, I have collected recipes that are easy, bursting with flavour and sure to be cooked on repeat. With fewer ingredients and less stress, the recipes include familiar Mediterranean classics, as well as plenty of Greek-influenced dishes with my own twists.”

We met Georgina at Abergavenny Food festival and we are happy to report that the warm and captivating personality that shines from her Instagram profile is even brighter in real life.
