Netherton meets HRH the Princess Royal
Tuesday 27th January 2015 and the local news for today is that HRH the Princess Royal officially opened the wonderful Shropshire Women and Children's Centre at the Princess Royal Hospital in Telford.
The Centre opened in September last year and is a centre of excellence for services for women and children in Shropshire.
We were thrilled and honoured, not only to be invited to attend, but also to have one of our hand painted, Smoke Sunset tagines presented to Her Royal Highness as a memento of her visit. This is one of our cast iron bowls with a tagine lid, hand painted by Rachel frost with a hand turned knob, made from Wyre Forest oak. Adrian Osborne, Communications Director for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital Trust coordinated the event and we are grateful to him for selecting one of our products to represent Shropshire.
The presentation was made, on behalf of the Trust, by Joseph, a pupil at Ysgol Cedewain in Newtown - a charming young man, who appears to be making a career of public appearances. He also placed the "Golden Bolt" during the building of the centre.
This was the Princess's third visit ot the hospital that bears her name and the patients and staff were clearly delighted to see her. She made a tour of the facilities and chatted with many of them along the way.
We were also fortunate enough to meet her and explained that we had made her presentation gift here in the county. When we warned her that a cast iron tagine is pretty heavy, she joked that she had some "handy young men" with her who would carry it home for her.
